In my calendar today, I have an all-day event called "Bradbury day". The description is only a link to this short story. I cannot for the life of me remember creating this event, but apparently I made it on Saturday the 5th of February 2022 at 14:21:46 UTC. I can no longer remember why I added this to my calendar either, except for the obvious reason that the story is set on that date (post-apocalyptic future). I don't think this is a time period where I thought the world was ending, nor do I think the short story really spoke to me (or maybe it did?). I wish I would have written down a little message to myself as to why I did this!
Perhaps I just thought it would be amusing to think about how Bradbury (1920-2012), having published this story in 1950, considered 2026 to be such a distant future. I think the same way about future dates that are in my lifetime even! To be fair, there's nothing that is currently technologically impossible in that story (just unecessary or done differently) but at least we somehow avoided blowing ourselves up so far.
